Aston Villa vs Everton Predictions, Betting Tips And Match Preview 18/09/21

Aston Villa welcome Everton to Villa Park in Saturday’s late Premier League kick off.

Dean Smith’s side currently sit 12th in the table, having won just one league game so far. They could do with a win to help boost their confidence.

It’s a far cry from their start to the season last year, when they won all four of their opening fixtures. Smith will be hoping his side can rediscover that kind of form starting here on Saturday.

Everton, on the other hand, could hardly have asked for a better start to the season. They’re unbeaten so far, and tied at the top of the table on 10 points.

Many questions were asked when former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez was appointed at Goodison Park. It looks to have been a shrewd acquisition so far though.

Villa will take confidence from the fact that they haven’t been beaten at home so far this season. That run only spans two games however, and they had to come from behind to draw with Brentford last time.

Everton are also unbeaten on the road in their three away games so far. The Toffees made fairly light work of Brighton last time they were on their travels.

With an unbeaten home record against an unbeaten away record, something is bound to give here. If previous encounters have told us anything about this fixture, that is that this will be a tight game.

Below, we’ll preview this Premier League fixture and provide our predictions, the team news, our recommended bets and more…

Aston Villa vs Everton Predictions

Aston Villa started their Premier League campaign in the worst possible way. An away trip to newly-promoted Watford looked to be the ideal start, but it wasn’t to be for Villa.

The visitors found themselves 2-0 down at half time at Vicarage Road. Things got worse in the second 45, as they went 3-0 down before the 70 minute mark.

John McGinn and a very late strike from summer signing Danny Ings made the score look more respectable. In truth though, Villa was never in the game after falling behind.

Dean Smith’s side bounced back next time out, as they welcomed Newcastle to Villa Park. Danny Ings and Anwar El-Ghazi secured a 2-0 win that day.

A 6-0 drubbing of Barrow in the EFL Cup followed. Next up was Brentford at home, but Villa could only manage to hold the Premier League new boys to a 1-1 draw.

The Villans travelled to Stamford Bridge last week after the international break. It proved to be an uphill task, as the European Champions romped to an easy 3-0 win.

Everton started their Premier League campaign nicely with a 3-1 win at home to Southampton. That was followed by a 2-2 draw with Leeds at Elland Road.

A 2-1 EFL Cup win over Huddersfield got them back on track, before their 2-0 win away at Brighton. Everton welcomed Burnley to Goodison Park last weekend and won the game with three goals in six minutes after falling behind early in the second half.

Everton will come into this with the most confidence. Villa Park has always been a bit of a bogey ground for the Toffees though and they’ll need to remain professional.

Aston Villa vs Everton Head to Head

Being two of the oldest clubs in football history, these two have obviously met on lots of occasions previously. If we want to be exact, they’ve met 224 times.

Both clubs have 82 wins each to their name, with a further 60 games ending all square. So the overall head to head between these clubs couldn’t be more even.

In the last 10 meetings between these two historic clubs, Everton have been victorious five times. Aston Villa have won three times, with the remaining two games ending all square.

Aston Villa have the better recent record, winning in May this year at Goodison Park. Everton haven’t beaten Villa since 2016, but there were a few years where Villa were in the Championship.

Overall, this is a very competitive and historic Premier League fixture. As with any match up in England’s top league, it could either way.

Aston Villa Team News – L D W W L

Emiliano Martinez missed last week’s defeat to Chelsea due to having to isolate. He’s expected to be available for selection here and if that’s the case, he will start in net.

Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa are expected to start at the centre of defence. Matty Cash and Matt Targett will start the game in the fullback positions.

Douglas Luiz is expected to start in midfield alongside Emiliano Buendia. John McGinn and El-Ghazi will occupy the wings for the home side.

Dean Smith is expected to start the game with two forwards. Ollie Watkins played his first 90 minutes last week after injury, he’s expected to start alongside Ings.

Watkins is yet to hit the heights of last season for Villa. However, Danny Ings has had a good start to his career at Villa Park, scoring two in four.

Rafa Benitez is expected to name the same starting XI that beat Burnley last week. That will, unsurprisingly, see Jordan Pickford start in net for the visitors.

Our Aston Villa v Everton predictions expect the Toffees to go with a back three. That will see Ben Godfrey, Yerry Mina and Michael Keane all start. The latter was on the scoresheet last weekend.

Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure will anchor the midfield. Lucas Digne will play the left wing back role, with captain Seamus Coleman occupying the right wing back position.

Benitez is expected to name the same attacking trio that started against Burnley. That will see Richarlison, Damarai Gray and Andros Townsend all start here.

Gray and Townsend both scored in the win over Burnley. Gray in particular has been in fine form for his new club, scoring in each of his last three games.

Aston Villa vs Everton Betting Tips

Despite their inconsistent start to the season, Villa still find themselves slight favourites to win. The home side are priced at 7/5 to win the game in our Aston Villa v Everton match bets

Two of the last three meetings have ended all square between these two. You can back the draw at 9/4 if you think that will happen again here.

Even though they’re unbeaten so far this season, Everton are the 2/1 outsiders. That represents some real value if you feel the Toffees will continue their good form.

It’s going to be another tough game between these clubs. However, Everton’s current form can’t be ignored and we think they could take the three points here.
