Bristol City vs Bolton: Two Championship sides meet at Ashton Gate this evening looking to book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Bristol City vs Bolton match preview
The two sides go into this game on opposite ends of the form table. Bristol are unbeaten in 11 games across all competitions (W7 D4) and could make it six wins on the bounce against Bolton.
With the Robins sitting just one place outside the play-offs, promotion will be Lee Johnson’s main priority, but the FA Cup presents the perfect opportunity to maintain that momentum.
Johnson made five changes to his starting line-up when they hosted Premier League side Huddersfield in the last round but still managed to get that all-important victory. And it was just over a year ago since their impressive run in the Carabao Cup where they were knocked out by Manchester City in the semi-finals.
They go up against a Bolton side who have severe problems on and off the pitch. The Trotters sit three points shy of safety after losing 2-0 to West Brom on Monday night, a game which saw protests from the fans against the club’s owners.
And it’s no wonder the supporters have turned, a number of winding up petitions have been lodged against the club amid ongoing financial troubles and their disastrous form has put the future of the club in tatters.
Phil Parkinson, who just kept Bolton up last season with a 21st-place finish, has seen his side win just two of their last 19 games across all competitions (W2 D4 L13) and score only 10 goals in that time.
And their away form has been nothing short of terrible, losing their last five games on the road and failing to win any of their last 12.
Bristol City vs Bolton team news
The hosts could have Matty Taylor available after the forward missed last weekend’s win over Nottingham Forest, but Adam Webster, Jack Hunt and Niki Maenpaa remain doubts.
Bolton are likely to make wholesale changes with one eye on their Championship game with relegation rivals Reading on Tuesday, something City don’t need to worry about.
Recent debutants Joe Pritchard and Luca Connell could both feature for the visitors.

Bristol City vs Bolton head-to-head
Bristol City are unbeaten in their two games against Bolton in the league this season, beating them 2-1 at Ashton Gate last weekend and drawing 2-2 in Lancashire back in August.
This will be their third meeting in the FA Cup, with the Robins having won each of the previous two, while Bolton have not reached the fifth round of the competition since the 2011/12 season.
Bristol City vs Bolton betting prediction
I think this one’s cut and dried before it’s even kicked-off. There’s no way Bolton will want the added fixtures of the FA Cup as they prioritise their Championship survival.
