Celtic vs Bayer Leverkusen Predictions, Betting Tips And Match Preview 30/09/21

Celtic welcome Bayer Leverkusen to Paradise in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The hosts are currently pointless in Group G of the competition after one game week. The 4-3 defeat to Betis in the first round of games was certainly a confidence dampener for the Scots.

Since that game, they’ve only managed to secure a single win. That came against Raith Rovers in the Scottish League Cup last midweek.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were unable to follow that up with a win in the league on the weekend though. The Bhoys were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Dundee United.

In contrast to Celtic, Bayer Leverkusen got off to the perfect start in gameweek one. A 2-1 win over Hungarian side Ferencvaros sees the Germans tied at the top of the group.

Gerard Seoane’s men have had an excellent start to their domestic campaign, too. Leverkusen currently sit second in the German Bundesliga, just three points off leaders Bayern Munich.

The Germans are also unbeaten in their four away games in all competitions so far this season. However, Celtic are also unbeaten at home so far, so there’s a feeling something’s got to give here.

With three consecutive wins under their belt heading into this game, Leverkusen are definitely more in form. They’ll also have much more confidence that they can get a result here.

It’s going to be a competitive 90 minutes of football in Glasgow. We’re sure the Paradise crowd will provide an electrifying atmosphere for this game. They’ll be hoping that Celtic can match it on the pitch.

Below, we’ll preview this Europa League fixture and provide our predictions, the team news, our recommended bets and more…

Ange Postecoglou has some selection headaches ahead of this game…

Celtic vs Bayer Leverkusen Predictions

It’s tough to see how Celtic win this game. Being at home will certainly help them, but they may lack the quality needed to get the three points.

Postecoglou is set to be without star striker Kyogo Furuhashi. The Japanese forward scored seven goals in 11 games for Celtic before picking up an injury.

He’s missed Celtic’s last five games and set this to miss this one too. The goals have been shared between the other forwards since, but they definitely miss Kyogo in the team.

Of their last five matches in all competitions, Celtic have won just two. The first being a 3-0 win over Ross County and the other being their League Cup win over Raith.

Either side of those wins were a demoralising 4-3 defeat to Betis in Spain, followed by a 1-0 defeat to Livingston.

Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Dundee United will hardly have inspired much confidence in the Celtic fans. After taking the lead through Liel Abada in the 16th minute, they conceded just two minutes later.

Despite having 20 shots in the game, Celtic were unable to get back in front. That’s something that will concern the Celtic faithful heading into this.

Leverkusen are having no such problems winning their games. The German has won four of their last five.

Finding the net hasn’t been an issue either. In those five games, Leverkusen have scored a massive 13 goals. They’re hardly airtight defensively, either. Both teams have found the net in four of their last five games also.

This game looks likely to go to the visitors, but we may get spoiled with a lot of goals too.

Read on for our Celtic vs  predictions and best bets.

Kyogo remains out through injury for Celtic…

Celtic vs Bayer Leverkusen Head to Head

These two clubs have never met before, either competitively or in club friendlies.

Instead, let’s look at Celtic’s form against other German teams in the past. It doesn’t make pretty reading for Celtic fans, though.

Of their 24 games against German opposition in European competition, Celtic have won just four. They managed five draws, but have suffered a whopping 15 defeats.

That doesn’t bode well as they prepare to face Bayer Leverkusen, their 25th German opponent.

Leverkusen reached the first knockout stage of last year’s Europa League. They won the group with five wins from six, but were knocked out by Swiss champions Young Boys.

They’ll fancy their chances of winning this group. Getting three points in this game will send the Germans well on their way.

Celtic Team News – D W L L W

Celtic’s injury list heading into this game is extensive to say the least. The biggest absence is striker Kyogo, who was in red hot form before his injury

The Celts are also without James Forrest and Callum McGregor, both of whom would likely have started.

A similar team to the one that drew with Dundee United on the weekend is expected. That would see Joe Hart start in goal for the home side.

Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers are expected to start in the centre of defence. Josip Juranovic and Anthony Ralston could start in the fullback positions.

James McCarthy could be asked to step into midfield in the absence of McGregor. Tom Rogic and David Turnbull could join him in midfield.

The front three are expected to be the same that started on the weekend. That would see Albian Ajeti lead the line, with Jota and Liel Abada on the flanks.

Patrick Schick is the main attacking threat for Bayer Leverkusen…

Bayer Leverkusen Team NewsW W W L W

We’re expecting to see a similar Leverkusen XI that played on Saturday. Our Celtic v Bayer Leverkusen predictions expect Lukas Hradecky to start in goal.

Odilon Kossounou is out injured for this. That will be a massive miss for Leverkusen, but Jonathan Tah is expected to be fit to play in defence.

Mitchel Bakker and Jeremie Frimpong are expected to start in the full back roles. Kerem Demirbay and Aranguiz will likely anchor the midfield in front of the defence.

Karim Bellarabi, Moussa Diaby and Florian Wirtz will provide the attacking creativity in midfield. The latter has scored four goals and got two assists in his last four games in all competitions.

Patrik Schick is expected to play as the lone striker for Leverkusen here. The Czech forward has four goals in his last six games.

Celtic vs Bayer Leverkusen Betting Tips

The home side are not in great form and the odds show. Postecoglou’s team are currently 5/2 to win the game in our Celtic v Bayer Leverkusen match bets.

Given Celtic’s terrible form against German sides, it seems unlikely this will end in a draw. The traders have been cautious though, and priced the draw up at 13/5.

With some good form under their belts, Bayer Leverkusen are still good value for the win. The 10/11 on offer for the visitors to win looks tempting.

It’s hard to see anything other than a Leverkusen win here. We’re expecting goals in the game though, and so we’ll browse the markets for some value.
