Celtic vs Ferencvaros Predictions, Betting Tips And Match Preview 19/10/21

Celtic welcome Ferencvaros to Celtic Park in the Europa League’s only Tuesday night fixture.

The Celts remain pointless in Group G so far along with their guests, who haven’t won a game either. Both will feel this is an opportunity to get some points on the board.

The host’s home form has been decent this season. Their only defeat on home soil came against Bayer Leverkusen in their last Europa League game.

Ferencvaros’ away form has been mostly good so far this season. They did lose both of their Champions League qualifying away legs to Slavia Prague and Young Boys however.

The visitors also lost their only away game in the Europa League so far this season. That was a 2-1 defeat to Leverkusen in Germany, however the Hungarians did have a goal disallowed in the game.

If any Celtic fans are expecting an easy game here, then they need a reality check. We saw very recently with England when they played Hungary at Wembley that they shouldn’t be underestimated.

Some of the Hungary national team’s best players are in this Ferencvaros squad, so don’t expect them to roll over. They’ll be sure to make this a competitive affair in Glasgow.

Celtic will benefit from having their own fans behind them in this. The Celtic Park crowd played their part in wins over Jablonec and AZ Alkmaar in qualifying for the Europa League.

It’s set to be a very competitive game in Glasgow on Tuesday night. Who will get their first points of the group stages? It remains to be seen.

Below, we’ll preview this Europa League fixture and provide our predictions, the team news, our recommended bets and more…

Ange Postecoglou is looking for this first group stage win with Celtic…

Celtic vs Ferencvaros Predictions

The visitors will definitely bring an attacking threat, having scored in both of their games so far in the group. Celtic will need to be on their game, but are more than capable of finding the net too.

That was evident in their 4-3 defeat to Betis in the opening game of the group stage. That loss was all the more frustrating, given Celtic went into a 2-0 lead in the first half.

The 4-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen that followed was equally as frustrating for manager Ange Postecoglou. Celtic had plenty of chances in the game, but failed to take them.

The Germans were much more clinical in their finishing and put Celtic to the sword. Two goals either side of half time was enough to earn Leverkusen top spot in the group.

Ferencvaros have also lost to Betis and Leverkusen in the group so far. The 2-1 defeat to Leverkusen could have been so different, had they not had a goal disallowed.

The 3-1 loss to Betis was also much closer than the scoreline suggests. The Spanish side took the lead, before Ferencvaros levelled before half time.

It took a 76th minute own goal to put Beits ahead in the game. A 95th minute strike from Christian Tello made the scoreline slightly more flattering for the visitors that day.

Based on their collateral form against the other two teams in the group, this will be tight. The Hungarians will make life tough for Celtic, but the home crowd could provide the Bhoys with the inspiration needed.

Kyogo is back in squad after a long lay off with injury…

Celtic vs Ferencvaros Head to Head

These two clubs have met on just one previous occasion in their respective history. The two clashed in Champions League qualifying back in August 2020.

In the one legged tie, the Hungarians came to Glasgow and ran out 2-1 winners to knock Celtic out. The manner of the defeat will be one that infuriated the Celts.

The visitors took an early lead in the game on seven minutes, thanks to David Siger. The home side got a foothold in the game after that and began to dominate possession.

Just eight minutes into the second half, Celtic were level through Ryan Christie. If the hosts were able to have fans in the stadium, Celtic Park would have been bouncing.

Celtic continued to push for their second goal, but it was the visitors who landed a sucker punch on 75 minutes. Tokmac Nguen put the finishing touch to a fluent Ferencvaros move to snatch a win for the visitors.

A look at the stats show just how much Celtic dominated over the 90 minutes. The Hungarians had two shots on target throughout the whole game, and scored with them both.

This is the perfect chance to Celtic to get some revenge for that defeat. With the Celtic Park crowd at their back, they’ll have every chance of doing so.

Celtic Team News – W W L D W

Postecoglou is expected to stay with his preferred 4-3-3 formation for this. That will likely see the same starting XI as the one that beat Motherwell on the weekend.

Joe Hart will retain his place in goal for the home side here. Ralston and Bolingoli are expected to start the game at right and left back respectively.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt are expected to retain their partnership in defence. That makes up the back four for the hosts

Tom Rogic will start in the centre of midfield. He will be joined by Callum McGregor and David Turnbull. The latter scored his seventh goal of the season on the weekend.

Kyogo Furuhashi has been eased back into the side following his injury. The Japanese striker got 81 minutes under his belt on the weekend and is expected to start here.

He will be flanked either side by Jota and Liel Abada. Albian Ajeti is another attacking option for the home side and could start in place of Jota or Abada.

The visitors left themselves open against Betis in their last game. That’s likely to see them revert back to the 5-3-2 formation that made them so competitive against Leverkusen.

That will see Dibusz keep his place in net for the visitors. Mmaee, Blazic and Botka will make up the three in the centre of defence.

That will allow Ferencvaros to attack using the width from their wing backs. Civic will start the game at left wing back, with the aptly-named Wingo likely to start on the right.

A midfield trio of Zachariassen, Laidouni and Vecsei are expected to start the game. They will be key to breaking up the Celtic attacks and starting the counter for the away side.

Ryan Mmaee and Myrto Uzuni are expected to partner one another up front for the Hungarians. Uzuni bagged against Betis last time and will want to add to his tally here.
