England welcome the Czech Republic to Wembley on Tuesday evening in their final Euro 2020 Group D match. After their 0-0 draw with Scotland on Friday, the pressure is on Gareth Southgate’s men to deliver.
Had the Three Lions won their game against neighbours Scotland, they could have rested key players for this.
As it stands, a draw will be enough for both nations, but that would leave England finishing in second place and a potentially tougher route in the knockouts.
England got off to the perfect start with a win over Croatia in game one. They looked solid for long periods of that game, but did struggle to create clear cut chances throughout the 90 minutes.
They faced a very similar issue against Scotland last time out. Southgate has come under great scrutiny for his personnel changes, with many feeling Jadon Sancho should have been introduced.
Czech Republic have been one of the surprise packages at Euro 2020. Their opening 2-0 win over Scotland was an impressive performance which had many touting their dark horse status.
Striker Patrick Schick has been the standout start for the Czechs so far in the tournament. The imposing forward has netted three goals so far.
West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek has also put in good performances so far. The 26 year old helps the team to tick over and will be hoping he can dominate the England midfield here.
Below, we’ll preview this Euro 2020 fixture and provide our predictions, the team news, our recommended bets and more…
Czech Republic vs England Predictions
Following that draw with Scotland last time, England are expected to go on and win here. It won’t be easy though and Czech Republic have shown they’re not willing to just make up the numbers.
Gareth Southgate received plenty of criticism following the Scotland game. The main one being that he failed to make changes to give England more of a creative effect in the match.
That criticism could see Southgate turn to Jadon Sancho for the first time at Euro 2020. He could be the one to unlock the Czech Republic defence if the game becomes tight.
Harry Kane is yet to get off the mark in the tournament. The Spurs striker has looked lethargic and hasn’t had many opportunities to score.
Having won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup, much more was expected from Kane. It’s possible he’s suffering from burnout after a long season with his club. Will Southgate give him a rest for this?
The Czech Republic have been one of the big surprises at Euro 2020. Many knew of some of their more talented players, but few expected them to be on four points from two games.
Schick has done his reputation no harm at all. The Bayer Leverkusen forward is on track to be top scorer if he continues to find the net.
Premier League fans will be all too aware of Tomas Soucek’s quality. After a couple of solid performances already in the centre of midfield, bigger clubs could be eyeing him up.
A point a piece would see both nations automatically progress to the knockouts. That will leave both teams wanting to avoid the defeat, so this might not be as open as most mutuals would like.

Czech Republic vs England Head to Head
These two countries have only met on three previous occasions over the years.
The first was in August 2008 in a friendly international fixture at Wembley. Milan Baros put the Czechs ahead, before Wes Brown equalised.
The Czechs were soon ahead again though, via Jankulovski. England struggled massively in the game and it took a last gasp equaliser from Joe Cole to see the game end 2-2.
England then didn’t meet Czech Republic again until qualification for this very tournament. The first game in March 2019 saw a comfortable win for England.
Raheem Sterling sent the Three Lions on their way before the half hour mark. That was added to right before half time by Harry Kane from the penalty spot.
By the 68th minute, Sterling had completed his hattrick. To add insult to injury, Tomas Kalas scored a late own goal to see England run out 5-0 winners.
The Czechs got their revenge in the reverse fixture, though. Harry Kane scored after five minutes, making everyone think another demolition job was on the cards.
That didn’t transpire though and Jakub Brabec equalised just four minutes later. An 85th minute strike from Zdenek Ondrasek secured a valuable 2-1 win for the Czech Republic.
Given how both teams have performed so far, it’s fair to say the Czechs have been the more impressive side.
Czech Republic Team News – D W W L L
The Czech Republic have gone with a 4-2-3-1 formation for both of their games so far. As the old saying goes – if it isn’t broke…
Patrick Schick will likely be asked to lead the line again for this game. He will be hoping to add to his goal scoring tally.
Ondrej Celustka and Tomas Kalas will partner each other in the centre of defence again here. They’ll be feeling confident they can contain the England attack.
Soucek will also likely start in the centre of midfield. He could be joined by either Alex Kral or Tomas Holes.
Vladimir Darida is the key playmaker for the Czechs. Our Czech Republic v England predictions expect him to start in the number 10 position, just behind Schick.
England Team News – D W W W W
Southgate made a couple of changes for the Scotland game. Presumably his aim was to try and nullify the Scots’ main threat down the flanks, if anything it hindered the Three Lions.
Luke Shaw has come into Euro 2020 on the back of a fantastic season with Manchester United. He didn’t get into the game against Scotland, but that was overall a poor performance from the team.
Ben Chilwell could get the call up to fill in at left back for this game. The Champions League winning full back carries a great attacking threat and is equally as good defensively.
Harry Maguire is yet to get any minutes under his belt at this tournament. If fit, the Manchester United centre half could be brought in to deal with Schick’s aerial threat.
Despite getting England’s only goal at the tournament so far, Sterling has been disappointing. If Southgate does look to try something new, Jadon Sancho could be given the nod for this.
Czech Republic vs England Betting Tips
Given how well they’ve played so far at Euro 2020, it’s surprising to see Czech Republic at such a big price. The traders currently have the visitors priced at 13/2 to win in our Czech Republic v England match bets.
With neither side wanting to lose this, it could end up being a tight encounter. The traders seem to agree and have the draw priced at 23/10.
England are the odds on favourites to win the game at 3/5. That’s probably less to do with recent form and more to do with the fact that the game is at Wembley.
The hosts are more than capable of winning this game. A performance similar to the one that saw them beat Croatia would be enough to win this.
However, the risks of losing the game are so great, it could result in a very tight game.
