England vs Hungary Predictions, Betting Tips And Match Preview 12/10/21

England welcome Hungary to Wembley for their World Cup 2022 qualifier on Tuesday night.

Gareth Southgate’s men sit top of qualifying Group I, four points clear of second placed Albania. Meanwhile, Hungary sit in fourth place and although qualification is not mathematically impossible, it does seem improbable.

The hosts have an impressive home record that has seen them lose just once in their last 20 matches. Hungary’s away record is a mixed back, with just six wins of their last 20 games on the road.

The Three Lions had the perfect preparation for this game with a comfortable win over Andorra on Saturday. Goals from Chilwell, Saka, Abraham, Ward-Prowse and Grealish secured a 5-0 win for England.

Hungary’s prep for this was far from ideal. Hosting Albania in the Puskas Arena in Budapest on Saturday, the hosts went into the game as favourites. An 80th minute Armando Broja strike secured a shock win for Albania.

That result also meant that it’s not possible for England to qualify during this international break. That will be sure to have frustrated Southgate and his men.

Southgate fielded a much changed side to take on Andorra at the weekend. He’s expected to make wholesale changes again for this game, with a more familiar starting XI taking the field.

England will be favourites for this game and rightly so. They should make light work of this Hungary team in front of a packed out Wembley crowd.

Below, we’ll preview this World Cup qualifying fixture and provide our predictions, the team news, our recommended bets and more…

Harry Kane was on the scoresheet the last time these two nations met…

England vs Hungary Predictions

If the hosts were to lose this game, it would be nothing short of disaster. Especially considering the Three Lions won the previous meeting by a convincing 4-0 scoreline.

The Hungarians did hold out Southgate’s men for the first half of that game. It was all England though and the hosts eventually crumbled under the pressure. This game could go the same way.

England have scored a total of 15 goals in their last five games in all competitions. That’s an average of three goals a game and it will be surprising if England don’t score that many here.

The visitors have won just one of their last five games. That was a 2-1 win over Andorra in the last round of qualifiers last month. They’ve lost the other three qualifiers in that time.

Since the crushing Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy, England have won three and drawn one of their four World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Harry Kane hasn’t had the best start to the season for club Tottenham. The transfer rumours surrounding the striker and a move to Manchester City are almost certainly the cause.

Despite that, Kane has still scored in each of his last three England games. Barring any last minute injuries in training, the Spurs striker looks certain for a starting place in this game.

The visitors will want to frustrate their hosts in this. They did a good job of that in the first half of the meeting between these back in September.

As the home side, England will be expected to go on the attack. They should win this quite easily.

Gareth Southgate is expected to make plenty of changes to the team that started against Andorra…

England vs Hungary Head to Head

These two nations have met on nine previous occasions. England have won seven, Hungary have won just one and the other ended in a draw.

That one win for Hungary came all the way back in 1962, so that won’t give us any hints in this. Likewise, three of the last four games have all been international friendlies in 1999, 2006 and 2010 respectively.

The most recent meeting in September is the best yardstick for how this game will go. A similar scoreline to the game in Budapest would be the minimum expectation for England here.

There were four different scorers in the 4-0 win last month. Harry Kane got on the scoresheet in the 63rd minute after Raheem Sterling put England ahead on 55 minutes.

Six minutes after Kane’s strike, Harry Maguire made it 3-0 to the Three Lions. Declan Rice found the net late on to give the victory an extra bit of shine.

This game is expected to go in a very similar way to the most recent one. Harry Kane is also expected to get on the scoresheet, so he’ll be one to watch.

Southgate is expected to make a whole host of changes to the side that beat Andorra on Saturday. Sam Johnstone is set to be replaced by England number one Jordan Pickford in goal.

John Stones, who played the majority of the game against Andorra is expected to start again here. Harry Maguire is injured, so it will be a toss up between Tyrone Mings and Conor Coady for who starts.

Kyle Walker will come back into the side, while Luke Shaw could face a late fitness test. If the Manchester United full back isn’t fit, Ben Chilwell could start at left back.

Declan Rice will come into the holding midfield role for the hosts. Kalvin Phillips is out with an injury and that could see Jordan Henderson starting alongside Rice.

An attacking midfield trio of Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Jack Grealish will most likely start the game. The latter two came off the bench against Andorra, with Grealish scoring his first goal for England.

Harry Kane will lead the attacking line for the Three Lions. The Spurs striker will bring the main goal scoring threat for the hosts.

Our England v Hungary predictions expect to see a similar side as possible to the one that played last month. That will see former Liverpool shot stopper Peter Gulacsi start in goal.

The back line is likely to feature five players. Szalai, Orban and Kecskes are likely to make up the central trio. Attila Fiola will likely start at left back, with Bendeguz Bolla expected to start at right back.

Andras Schafer and Laszlo Kleinhesiler are expected to reprise their roles in the centre of midfield. Dominik Szoboszlai and Roland Sallai will start the game in attacking midfield for the visitors.

Hungary’s first choice striker Adam Szalai is set to miss the game with injury. That’s a huge blow for the visitors, as the forward was one of the few positives for Hungary last time.

Szabolcs Schon could be the man to replace Szalai in the attack. The 21 year old FC Dallas striker got 33 minutes under his belt on Saturday. That could have been to prepare to start here.

England vs Hungary Betting Tips

England are the heavy favourites to win this game. The home side are priced at 1/6 on to win in our England v Hungary match bets

Only one meeting between these two countries has finished all square. If you think that will be the case here, you can back the draw at 5/1.

Such is the mammoth task at hand here for Hungary, the visitors are a huge 16/1 just to win. Those odds reflect the likelihood of that happening in this game.

The home side will win this game, barring a massive shock at Wembley. The match odds are not tempting at all though, and we’ll need to scour the markets for some value.
