Everton vs West Ham Predictions, Betting Tips And Match Preview 17/10/21

Everton welcome West Ham to Goodison Park in Sunday’s early Premier League kick off.

The Toffees sit fifth in the Premier League table, just two points off top spot ahead of this weekend’s fixtures. West Ham currently sit in ninth, but can leapfrog the hosts with a win in this game.

It was a turbulent summer for Everton, losing Carlo Ancelotti unexpectedly and James Rodriguez, who left the club as result.

Despite that, the controversial appointment of former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez looks to be paying off. Everton have made their best start to a Premier League campaign in over a decade.

Meanwhile, former Everton manager David Moyes has taken his West Ham side to new heights. The Hammers are currently top of their group in the Europa League after a solid league campaign last season.

Michail Antonio looks to have gotten a new lease of life this year. The Jamaican forward is just one goal behind Mo Salah and Jamie Vardy in the scoring charts.

Everton are unbeaten at home so far this season. In their three Premier League games at Goodison so far, they won all three. They’ve scored eight goals and conceded just twice in those games also.

West are unbeaten away from home in all competitions this season. Moyes’ men have won four and drawn the other of their five games on the road. That includes a 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, the first time Moyes has managed that since leaving the club.

An unbeaten home record against an unbeaten away record, something’s got to give.

Below, we’ll preview this Premier League fixture and provide our predictions, the team news, our recommended bets and more…

Rafael Benitez has guided Everton to their best league start in over a decade…

Everton vs West Ham Predictions

This looks set to be a very interesting clash. Rafa Benitez has made his Everton side difficult to beat at Goodison Park. Their away record is shaky, but that isn’t a concern for this game.

Benitez’s two summer recruits, Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray have been Everton’s stand out players so far. The pair have scored three goals each in the league.

Townsend in particular is in scintillating form, having scored in each of his last three games. The duo will be set to start again here, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison both expected to be absent.

It won’t surprise anyone to read that we’re highlighting Antonio as West Ham’s main threat. The forward has started the season in great form for the Hammers.

He hasn’t scored in his last two games though, and will want to continue adding to his tally. It won’t offer much encouragement that Antonio hasn’t scored in any of West Ham’s last 10 games against Everton.

The international break came at the right time for West Ham. Before the break, they were on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat to newly-promoted Brentford.

Everton’s last Premier League game was a hard-earned 1-1 draw away at Manchester United. The Toffees could easily have won the game too, with a late Yerry Mina goal being ruled out for offside.

Both clubs are in a very good position at the moment and that sets this game up nicely. West Ham have plenty of attacking flair and Everton are devastating on the counter. It will be interesting to see which style prevails.

David Moyes will be hoping he can get one over on one of his former employers for the second time this season…

Everton vs West Ham Head to Head

The last ten meetings between these two clubs have mostly come in the Premier League. West Ham have won three of those, with Everton winning five and the remaining two ending in a draw.

West Ham won the most recent clash at Goodison Park in January this year. An 86th minute Tomas Soucek strike secured the 1-0 win for the Hammers.

The Toffees got revenge later in the season in May though. A first half Calvert-Lewin goal was enough to land Everton a 1-0 win at the London Stadium.

Before January, West Ham hadn’t won this fixture since September 2018. A Yarmolenko brace was added to by Arnautovic, with Sigurdsson getting the consolation in a 3-1 win for the Hammers.

Everton boast the biggest victory in the recent clashes. Their 4-1 win in the EFL Cup in September last year is the biggest winning margin since 2017. That was also a 4-0 win for the Toffees on that occasion.

Based on the records, it’s fair to say that Everton are a bit of a bogey team for West Ham. However, David Moyes has them much better drilled now and they’ll be dangerous.

Everton Team News – D W D L W

The home side are without main striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin for this game. The forward has missed more games than he’s played this season.

Usually in Calvert-Lewin’s absence, Richarlison will step up and play the lone striker role. The Brazilian is also out injured however, and that opens the door for Solomon Rondon to start up front.

Jordan Pickford will maintain his place in goal for the hosts after featuring for England. Michael Keane and Yerry Mina will partner each other in the centre of defence.

Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman are both out injured. That will likely see Mason Holgate play at right back, with Ben Godfrey deputising at left back.

Allan will be asked to hold the midfield for the hosts alongside Doucoure. The latter has probably been Everton’s best player so far this season.

Andros Townsend and Anthony Gordon are expected to start on the wings. Demarai Gray will operate in the number ten role behind Rondon.

Dominic Calvert-Lwein

Lukasz Fabianski played his final game for Poland during the international break. Our Everton v West Ham prediction have him starting this game in goal for the visitors.

Ogbonna, who was heavily linked with Everton, and Kurt Zouma, who played on loan at Everton, will start in defence.

Boyhood Liverpool fan Aaron Cresswell will start at left back, with Coufal expected to miss out through injury. Moyes will have to make some changes to accommodate a right back deputy.

Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek will hold the midfield. Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen will occupy the wings, with Said Benrahma expected to play as a number ten.

Unsurprisingly, Michail Antonio will lead the attacking line for the away side here. Despite not having a great record against Everton, he’s in fine form and will be a danger.

Everton vs West Ham Betting Tips

Despite having a host of first team players out with injury, Everton remain favourites. The Toffees are priced up at 6/5 in our Everton v West Ham match bets.

Draws are pretty rare between these two clubs. They’re closely matched on form for this season though and you can back the draw now at 23/10.

West Ham won their last visit to Goodison Park. Moyes’ men are the 9/5 outsiders for this game, but that could represent some value.

Despite their injury concerns, Everton have made themselves tough to beat. With Townsend and Gray in the form of their careers, the home side may just edge this.
