Fulham vs Tottenham: Can Claudio Ranieri’s men make most of playing Spurs without star strikers Harry Kane and Heung-min Son?
Fulham vs Tottenham match preview
Fulham are yet to see a bounce under new manager Claudio Ranieri, with the Cottagers still inside the bottom three and five points from safety.
The Premier League newcomers have just one win in their last 10 games across all competitions (W1 D3 L6), with that coming against rock bottom side Huddersfield.
It’s a marginally better record that Ranieri’s predecessor Slavisa Jokanovic, who lost eight of his last 10 games (W1 D1 L8) as Fulham manager.
But they host Tottenham who are without a number of key players.
Spurs’ top goalscorer Harry Kane, who has 20 goals so far this season, has been ruled out of action until early March with an ankle problem, while Son Heung-min, who just hit form with eight goals in 10 games, is at the Asian Cup.
Mauricio Pochettino will have to decide whether to play Dele Alli in a more advanced role, play Erik Lamela as a false 9 or recall Fernando Llorente to the starting line-up.
They also go up against Fulham on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester United, a game they really should have won if it wasn’t for a man of the match performance from United goalkeeper David De Gea.
But before that, Spurs were on a three-game winning streak in which they scored 11 goals without conceding. They should still have enough quality to win this one.
Fulham vs Tottenham team news
Ranieri could hand new signing Ryan Babel his Fulham debut after the former Liverpool wide-man completed his move from Besiktas earlier in the week.
Cottagers centre-back Alfie Mawson, who has struggled with a knee injury all season, remains out of action.
Tottenham will be without top goalscorer Harry Kane after damaging his ankle in the defeat to Man United, while Son Heung-min is away on international duty with South Korea.
The trip to Craven Cottage comes too soon for the injured Lucas Moura, so back-up striker Fernando Llorente could be set for a rare start up front.
