Grand Slam of Darts 2020 Betting Tips & Predictions

Gerwyn Price

The 2020 Grand Slam of Darts Finals come to us live from the Ricoh Arena in Coventry this Monday lunchtime.

The 14th year of the event will run from 16th to the 22nd of November and includes 32 players drawn from both the PDC and the BDO.

In the Grand Slam of Darts, players are grouped off into foursomes to compete in a mini table, playing all other group members in a best of nine leg match that is worth two points. After everyone has completed their fixtures, the top two will progress to the knockout rounds.

Can the Iceman win this event for the third year in a row? You betcha!

Absolutely no player on tour is playing better than Gerwyn Price is right now.

The Welsh world number two recently took down the World Cup of Darts for his country, ably partnered by Johnny Clayton who finds himself drawn in the same group (G) as his teammate.

The pair, both former Rugby players, destroyed England in the final, a result which followed Price’s Grand Prix title scoop only weeks before.

2020 has already rewarded the Iceman with eight PDC titles. He is in incredible form right now and is barely wasting a dart. Brilliantly timed form with the game’s biggest event of the year, the PDC World Darts Championships, beginning to appear on the horizon.

As far as this week’s Grand Slam is concerned, the group format allows a bit of space for errors, not that he’s making any, before it moves on to long format matches that play to a best of 19 legs before 31 leg best of games come into play.

Alongside his World Cup buddy Clayton, Price has been drawn with Mikuru Suzuki and Ryan Joyce which shouldn’t prove to be to bothersome.

Only world number one Michael van Gerwen looks capable of putting up a challenge in the long format game but even he has dropped off this year, last picking up silverware all the way back in March.

MVG remains world number one but he has been limping out of tourneys recently and, while we do not recommend this option often or even lightly, the time might finally have come to bet against Mighty Mike.

Should The Iceman win next Tuesday, he will have pulled off a unique achievement in winning the same major in three consecutive years, something that, so far, only Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen have achieved.

That looks a real possibility and we make him a 16/5 favourite to do so.

Of course, nothing is guaranteed but presently it looks like wasted money looking beyond Price this week and, if things stay this way, at the Ally Pally in December too.
