Millwall will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Queens Park Rangers and return to winning ways when they travel to the John Smith Stadium this Saturday to face Huddersfield Town.
The Lions have been one of the stand-out teams in the early championship season. Which provides further precedence to our Huddersfield vs Millwall predictions, forecasting a win for the visitors.
Given the Terriers woeful form, another positive result for Neil Harris’ men look to be on the cards.
Whether that translates into anything significant at the end of the year is still under debate. Our projections can be read in our 2019/20 Championship season preview.
But first things first…
Huddersfield vs Millwall Predictions
The fact that Huddersfield have just won two of their last 20 home league is foreboding. So much so, fans of the Terriers will be expecting defeat this weekend, unless some kind of miracle unfolds.
Especially if the host’s recent performances are anything to go by.
Indeed, last weekend’s 4-2 loss to promotional-hopefuls West Bromwich Albion proved exactly that.
Yes, some will argue that perhaps defeat to a team expected to make a return to the Premier League isn’t so bad. But less so than the result, was the performance from Danny Cowley’s men that was more worrying.
Even though the Terriers led twice at the Hawthorns, Slaven Bilic’s men were easily able to make a comeback – a trait that our Huddersfield vs Millwall predictions expect the Lions to exploit.
Cowley himself uttered that:
‘We did not play for the full 90 minutes.’
Even though they were relatively dominant for large swathes of the game, after the hour-mark, the Baggies roared to life scoring three unanswered goals.
Part of that comes down to the tactics of hitting West Brom on the break. But a breakdown in intensity in the second-half led to goals galore for the hosts.
A Matt Phillips double and headers from Darnell Furlong and Semi Ajayi did the damage.
It’s a part of the Terrier’s play that this weekend’s visitors, Millwall, will relish chipping away at.
Not to say that Neil Harris’s men aren’t prone to mistakes themselves.
The Lions were undone by their own lapses in concentration against QPR last weekend. A Bartosz Bialkowski howler ensured that it was Rangers, and not them, leaving with three points intact.
But there was enough attacking presence to fuel our forecast of a win against Huddersfield this Saturday.
Despite Bialkowski’s error and Inaki Wells’ double, the likes of Shaun Hutchinson and Jed Wallace caused Ranger’s defensive havoc.
And if it was enough to challenge QPR, it’ll turn the Terriers defence – known for their ineptitude – inside out.
Huddersfield vs Millwall Head To Head
Contrary to our Huddersfield vs Millwall predictions, the Terriers have been particularly good in this fixture down the years.
Whether it’s at the John Smith or on the road, they’ve given the Lions plenty to wallow about.
Indeed, the latest game between the two – which took place on February 2015 – proved exactly that when Huddersfield ran away with a 3-1 lead.
Yet, that’s exactly the problem – the last fixture was over four years ago. True, this Saturday’s hosts still came up with the goods. Yet in footballing terms, four years is quite the lengthy stretch of time.
Since then, Millwall have risen through the footballing leagues, only to fall again. What cannot be contested is their drive, tenacity, and refusal to accept defeat – something that could just thwart Cowley’s men.
Huddersfield Team News
Last weekend’s defeat to West Brom saw Cowley make only one change to the starting XI.
Adama Diakhaby made way for Elias Kachunga. The latter slotted into a 4-3-3 formation, with Karl Grant on the left of DJ Campbell.
Whether the Lions go for a similar lineup or look to include the likes of Steve Mounie or Isaac Mbenza is still under contention.
One thing that Cowley has clarified is the absence of Alex Pritchard. The 26-year-old is still recovering from a knee injury and won’t be fit to make it into the matchday squad as of yet.
With notable absentees and a squad still in confusion about it’s preferred formation, our Huddersfield vs Millwall predictions might just be worth punting on.
Millwall Team News
Meanwhile, Millwall will need Matt Smith and Jon Daoi Boovarsson present with peak onion-bag-locator skills.
For all their impressive performances, a lack of clinical finishing has often been their downfall.
With the two in considerably good form, Harris has a far better chance in coming away from the John Smith Stadium with all three goals.
Huddersfield vs Millwall Betting Tips
The odds about a victory for the Terriers look pretty abysmal, further fueling our Huddersfield vs Millwall predictions.
Indeed, Cowley’s men are operating as a 13/10 pick in our Huddersfield vs Millwall match bets. Meanwhile, the visitors have much more appeal about their chances. A 9/4 win comes across as more appealing odds, while even a draw (11/5) doesn’t seem to catch the eye.
All in all, another three points squandered by Huddersfield seems likely – one that pits them deeper and deeper into the relegation zone.
