Ipswich vs West Brom: Championship football returns this tonight following the international break as the Baggies look to gain some ground in the promotion race against rock bottom Tractor Boys.
Ipswich vs West Brom match preview
West Brom got their promotion push back on track just before the break with a surprise 4-1 win over high-flying Leeds thanks to four second-half goals at The Hawthorns, lifting them to fifth in the table.
The win ended a poor run of four games without a win, losing four of those.
And it was the Baggies’ fifth victory in which they scored four or more goals and took their tally to 37 in 17 Championship games – the highest attacking return in the league by nine goals.
But they have struggled at the back having shipped 25 goals so far – you have to go down as far as 15th-place Wigan to find a club who have conceded more. They’ve also kept just one clean sheet all campaign.
However, Darren Moore’s side go up against an Ipswich side who sit rock bottom of the Championship and looking for just their second win of the season.
A run of just one win in 14 games saw manager Paul Hurst get the sack last month, with the experienced Paul Lambert coming in as his replacement.
Lambert tasted defeat in his first game in charge against Millwall and picked up two points against Preston and Reading in the following two – and he reckons he’s seen enough from his players to keep them up.
But it’s not like they can turn to home advantage when they take on West Brom. The Tractor Boys have won just once at Portman Road in their last 16 games stretching back to the end of last season.
And they’ve been leaky at the back themselves, having also kept just one clean sheet in 17 attempts.
Ipswich vs West Brom team news
Ipswich striker Jon Walters, who has made just three appearance since joining on loan in the summer, continues to miss out with an Achilles injury.
But Lambert has no fresh injury concerns as he searches for his first win as Ipswich manager.
Moore is confident in-form Leicester loanee Harvey Barnes will be match fit and could name the same starting XI from the Leeds triumph for their trip to Portman Road.
Dwight Gale made his return from a calf injury against Leeds, scoring from off the bench, and could be recalled to the Moore’s first team.

Ipswich vs West Brom head-to-head
The two sides haven’t met in a league clash since January 2010, but Ipswich’s record against West Brom won’t fill the Championship strugglers with confidence. The Tractor Boys have won just one of their last nine league games with Albion.
But Ipswich did manage to beat West Brom in the EFL Cup in their last encounter.
Ipswich vs West Brom prediction
This should be a win to the visitors, but just one clean sheet in 17 games this season suggests the hosts have a chance of finding the back of the net.
