Leeds welcome Nathan Jones’ Stoke City to Elland Road with the aim of building on their midweek win over Brentford on home turf and extending their run atop the Championship table.
Indeed, as mentioned in our 2019/20 Championship preview, Marcelo Bielsa and his men are on the hunt to exorcise last season’s demons and clinch promotion as theirs.
Fortunately for the Whites, they’ll be playing Stoke at a time where the Potters have been defensively undone by their own mishaps.
Combine their fragility in the back with Leed’s dominant attack and our Leeds vs Stoke predictions wager that the hosts will have a fantastic chance of claiming consecutive wins.
So, without further ado…
Leeds vs Stokes Predictions
The Potters had a game to forget in the midweek fixtures against Preston North End.
From the onset of the match, the hosts were all over Stoke, and within 25 minutes at Deepdale, leading by a comfortable margin of two goals to nil.
Aside from their attacking brilliance, Preston were given a hand by Jack Butland’s error-strewn performance. The 26-year-old failed to turn Daniel Johnson’s scuffed shot around the post for the opener and was at fault again for their second when he allowed Billy Bodin’s shot from outside the area to slip under him.
Preston went on to score the third goal after half-time when Josh Harrup netted Butland’s parried shot.
Unfortunately, things don’t get any easier for Stoke. This Saturday they’ll be facing a promotion-chasing Leeds side who are very much in form.
The result leaves the Potters bottom of the Championship, with Jones having won just four of his 26 competitive games in charge – a stat that does, even more, favours for our Leeds vs Stoke predictions.
Indeed, Marcelo Bielsa’s men impressed in a 1-0 win on Wednesday against a Brentford side who’ve been forecast to perform well in the league standings this year.
It was Eddie Nketjah who broke the deadlock for the hosts on his Championship debut for Leeds. But more importantly, the 20-year-old was able to profit from newly-signed Helder Costa’s square ball – all within four minutes of coming on as a substitute.
If this particular partnership blossoms, the Whites could have claimed something special in their attacking third.
Our Championship betting markets certainly think so, with the Nketjah expected to score first at decent odds.
With the England under-21 international causing havoc in the box and Costa blitzing into wide positions with his lightning speed, this could allow the midfield pairing of Pablo Hernandez and Stuart Dallas to start pulling the strings a little more – something that Stoke will certainly have trouble nullifying this Saturday.
Considering that Bielsa’s side has already claimed 10 points from a possible 12 so early in the season, all the signs suggest that this will be their year in returning to the Premier League. In comparison, Stoke should be easily toppled for another three points gained at Elland Road.
Leeds vs Stoke Head To Head
The head-to-head stats between these two teams have proven that this particular fixture can bring about unpredictable results.
Evident in this year’s clash where Stoke emerged as 2-1 winners, and the season prior where Leeds comfortably claimed victory by three goals to one, goals have never been an issue for either team.
Considering the current defensive situation that Jones is trying to address, our Leeds vs Stoke predictions wager that there is a stronger chance of that result than the one we saw unfold in January.
Leeds Team News
Bielsa has a lot to ponder ahead of this Saturday’s game, especially with quite a few considerably big-name players absent with injuries.
Liam Cooper, Barry Douglas, and Ezgian Alioski were all potentials to miss out during the midweek clash with Brentford.
Yet despite the slight knocks they had, the Argentine still fielded Cooper and Alioski, with Douglas being replaced by Stuart Dallas to prevent any further injury to the left-back.
The Whites will be hoping to have all three playing in their preferred positions this Saturday, but going by how Bielsa’s side has been operating in the last few seasons, our Leeds vs Stoke predictions aren’t banking on it.
Stoke Team News
Fortunately for Stoke, there are very few injury concerns to report of, bar the long-standing absence of captain Ryan Shawcross, who’s been recovering from a foot fracture.
Jones will instead want to rotate his squad after the chaotic game they had on Wednesday against Preston. Whether that includes Butland after his errors that led to the Lillywhites goals is still under debate.
Leeds vs Stoke Betting Tips
Despite being dealt short odds, the Whites are betting as 11/10 favourites in our Leeds vs Stoke predictions.
Meanwhile, Stoke have been given the same odds worth a draw, which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence for the travelling fans.
But as reflected in our Leeds vs Stoke match bets, it’s pretty clear that consecutive defeats is the only way this game will end.
