All eyes will be on Elland Road when Leeds United welcome fellow promotion-hopefuls Swansea City to the hallowed Whites turf.
Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds are seen as no.1 favourites to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League. Yet on Saturday, they face a side who have already started proving their worth on the field, making this particular match-up all the more intriguing.
Nevertheless, going by Leeds’s recent form, there’s more of a chance of the Swans testing their skills but coming away with defeat – a result our Leeds vs Swansea predictions forecast the Whites to narrowly edge.
Whether this is indicative of where they’ll finish this season within the Championship with pole position in sight is another argument altogether. You can read our thoughts in our 2019/20 Championship season preview.
So, without further ado…
Leeds vs Swansea Predictions
Leeds come into this Saturday’s clash on a three-game winning run. Indeed, confidence and morale are certainly high within Marcelo Bielsa’s camp, ahead of a new season with a new opportunity to claim the promotion spot, and that was evident in their 3-0 romp over Stoke City.
Patrick Bamford was the man of the moment against the Potters, netting goal and an assist to cap off a prolific performance.
The Englishman played his part in the build-up to Leeds’s second goal when he squared a pass to left-back Ezgian Alioska for a tap-in from close range. Bamford then joined the goalscoring gala when he calmly slotted the ball past Adam Federici in the 66the minute to all but sink Stoke’s hopes of a comeback.
And it’s the kind of performance that’s been coming from the forward, especially with the skilful Pablo Hernandez pulling the strings from the midfield – a combination our Leeds vs Swansea predictions expect to be at the centre of the action come Saturday.
Playing an influential role in each of the White’s goals against Nathan Jones’ men, Hernandez’ link-up play with the likes of Bamford and Stuart Dallas was almost telekinetic.
As one of the most creative and knowledgeable, with him in the side, Bielsa has a very clear shot of returning to the Premier League.
For Swansea, Hernandez’s inclusion spells trouble. As the key stakeholder in Leeds’ interpretation of Bielsa’s attacking style of play, the 34-year-old will pose the likes of Mike van der Hoorn and Kyle Naughton plenty of problems.
With his natural style of dribbling and pin-point passing, the Spaniard brings the fullbacks into play, elevating the Whites attack.
The Swans themselves are no pushovers and are enjoying their best start to the season under Steve Cooper in 41 years.
Dominant wins against Birmingham City and Queens Park Rangers prove that the travelling side does have the potential to join Leeds atop the Championship table.
But there was enough evidence in their 3-2 win against Preston North End to suggest that defensive lapses are still a large part of their game – one that Bamford and co will be able to exploit on their way to victory.
Leeds vs Swansea Head To Head
The last few games in this fixture have been promising for Bielsa’s men after experiencing two defeats in the three previous clashes.
Earlier on in this calendar year, the Whites were able to edge past Swansea by two goals to one, with the game held a year earlier at the KCOM Stadium ending in a draw.
Perhaps more supportive of our own Leeds vs Swansea predictions, there is a strong chance of February’s result playing out than a whitewash at the hands of the Swans.
Leeds Team News
For the Whites, Bielsa will be closely monitoring the skipper Liam Cooper who was out last week for an alleged kick to the ankle.
Bielsa did not risk him against Stoke or during the Carabao Cup run and will want him to be 100% fit ahead of this weekend’s fixture.
Barry Douglas is another who will be closely watched. The Scotsman was replaced by Ezgian Alioski in both of last week’s matches with an injury Bielsa chose not to comment out.
Our Leeds vs Swansea predictions forecasts an inclusion for both men in this Saturday’s squad.
Swansea Team News
The Swans do have a few tricks up their sleeves, none more so than the potential inclusion of Yan Dhanda.
The youngster is taking the Premier League by storm, as one of the latest British Asians to feature in top-flight English football.
Dhanda’s efforts earned him a place in Swansea’s League Cup starting XI Cambridge United in place of George Byers. He may have earnt himself another start with reports suggesting that Byer may be ill for the week.
Meanwhile, Nathan Dyer and Aldo Kalulu also miss out due to injury, with Cooper’s new signing Kristoffer Peterson in the running for an appearance.
