Leeds vs West Ham Predictions, Betting Tips And Match Preview 25/09/21

Leeds welcome West Ham to Elland Road in one of the Saturday 3pm Premier League kick offs.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are yet to secure a league win so far this season. Of their five league games, they’ve drawn three and lost the other two.

West Ham’s start has been something of a mixed bag. Out of their five games, The Hammers have won two, drawn two and lost one.

It’s still very early days in the season, but West Ham will be aiming to secure a European place again. To do that, they could do with racking up points as early as possible.

Leeds look to be suffering from the infamous ‘second season syndrome’ in the Premier League. It’s a well-known phenomenon in which a newly-promoted club does well in their first season, but struggles in their second.

It’s probably too early to tell if Leeds are suffering from that just yet. However, there is a danger that Premier League clubs have the Whites “figured out”.

In their defence, the two defeats they have suffered this season have come against Manchester United and Liverpool. If we’re classing that as struggling, then a lot of Premier League teams are in trouble!

The Hammers are attempting to break into the top six. If they’re to do that successfully, they need to be winning games like this.

The hosts can be a handful for any team on their day. Their high energy, high press style forces mistakes from opposition defenses.

Once the press is bypassed however, Leeds are vulnerable. If they’re to get their first win here, they’ll need to defend well.

Below, we’ll preview this Premier League fixture and provide our predictions, the team news, our recommended bets and more…

Leeds vs West Ham Predictions

The home side may be lacking in confidence heading into this game. Since the season started, they’ve only won one game in 90 minutes of football.

That sole victory came courtesy of a 3-0 win over Crewe in the EFL Cup last month. Leeds also won their cup game in midweek, but it took penalties to get past Championship Fulham.

They definitely didn’t start the season in the way they would have wanted. A trip to Old Trafford resulted in a bruising 5-1 defeat.

Their 2-2 draw with Everton the next time out was definitely a more positive sign. The Whites had to come back from behind twice to draw the game at Elland Road.

The more concerning results will be the 1-1 draws with Burnley and Newcastle. Last season, Leeds beat both clubs in the league and that could be a sign of a Leeds burnout.

In complete contrast, West Ham’s start to the season couldn’t have gone any better. They opened the campaign with a 4-2 win over Newcastle at St. James’.

The Hammers then welcomed Leicester to the London Stadium. That was another productive 90 minutes for West Ham, as they ran out 4-1 winners.

Back to back draws against Crystal Palace and Southampton dampened their momentum slightly. A 2-1 league defeat to Manchester United followed, but they can consider themselves unlucky not to have drawn that game.

David Moyes’ men quickly got their revenge against United though, knocking them out of the EFL Cup in midweek. That will have been a timely confidence boost ahead of what is sure to be another tough game here.

Leeds vs West Ham Head to Head

Before Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League, these two clubs hadn’t met since West Ham were in the Championship back in 2012.

Both of those games in the 2011/12 Championship season ended in draws. The first was a 2-2 at Upton Park, with the reverse fixture at Elland Road ending 1-1.

It’s probably best to focus on the two most recent meetings between these clubs, which were last season.

The first game was during the festive period in 2020. Mateusz Klich put Leeds ahead before Tomas Soucek equalised for West Ham. It took an 80th minute winner from Angelo Ogbonna to separate the sides

The most recent meeting, at the London Stadium in March this year, also went West Ham’s way. In an eventful game, Leeds had two goals ruled out within two minutes of each other.

West Ham were then awarded a penalty. Jesse Lingard missed it, but followed up to score the opening goal of the game.

Seven minutes later, Craig Dawson made the score 2-0 to the home side. That’s how the game ended as Moyes’ men did the double of Leeds.

Leeds Team News – D D L D W

Marcelo Bielsa has some serious selection headaches heading into this game.

The hosts are set to be without main striker Patrick Bamford, as well as Diego Llorente and Robin Koch.

Pascal Struijk failed to have his red card rescinded for his tackle that ended Liverpool’s Harvey Elliot’s season. The Dutchman is set to miss several games for Leeds.

The problems don’t stop there either. Luke Ayling limped off in the game against Newcastle last week and he’s doubtful for this game.

Jack Harrison is also expected to miss this game, as is forward Raphinha. The latter will be a massive miss if he’s unable to play for Leeds here.

Tyler Roberts is expected to be asked to lead the attacking line in Bamford’s absence. The pressure could now be on Dan James to bring the creative spark for the hosts.

The forward, signed from Manchester United this summer, is also expected to start.

David Moyes made wholesale changes to his West Ham side as they beat Manchester United in midweek.

That was undoubtedly with this game in mind, and he’s expected to name a similar starting XI to last week.

Our Leeds v West Ham predictions expect Lukasz Fabianski to return and start in goal here. The Poland shot stopper was rested for the midweek cup game.

Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma are also expected to return to the starting line up. Vladimir Coufal and Aaron Cresswell are expected to start in the fullback roles.

Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek will again be asked to anchor the midfield. They will be joined by Pablo Fornals, Jarred Bowen and Said Benrahma in the middle of the park.

Nikola Vlasic led the attacking line last week against United in the absence of Michail Antonio. West Ham’s top scorer is now available again and is expected to start the game.

Leeds vs West Ham Betting Tips

With a winless run so far in the league, it’s no surprise to see Leeds as the outsiders here. The home side are priced at 19/10 in our Leeds v West Ham match bets.

Last season, two of the four meetings between these ended all square. If you think it will happen again, you can back the draw at 13/5.

Given their decent start to the season, West Ham are unsurprisingly the favourites to win here. Moyes’ team are the 13/10 favourites in the match bet market.

Given Leeds’ injury crisis, that price for West Ham looks far too big and represents great value. Get it before it’s gone!
