Jurgen Klopp’s men host the Foxes at Anfield this Saturday in what’s expected to be a blockbuster clash between two in-form sides.
And based on the European champions recent performances, our Liverpool vs Leicester predictions are expecting it to be an evenly-matched game where the Reds will have to do battle to win.
Indeed, after a hard-fought victory over Sheffield United last weekend, and a seven-goal midweek thriller against Redbull Salzberg in the Champions League, defensive cracks are beginning to show.
Yet boasting a blistering attack, the hosts should be able to outscore their former manager, Brendan Rodgers, team and claim all three points for themselves.
As always, take a read of our 2019/20 Premier League season preview for our thoughts on whether this will be Liverpool’s title-winning season.
Liverpool vs Leicester Predictions
After recording a challenging away win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane last weekend, Liverpool went into their midweek Champions League clash against Redbull Salzberg hopeful of a smoother victory.
Yet the game was anything but straightforward.
Indeed, after leading 3-0 in the first half and comfortably dominating the game, the visitors battled to make it 3-3 before a Mohamed Salah winner earned the hosts all three points.
And it was their makeshift central defensive pairing of Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez that took on the full brunt of the Redbull comeback.
The visitor’s first goal, courtesy of Hwang Hee-chan, saw Van Dijk dummied and sent sprawling to the ground. While Gomez was at fault for the second when Takumi Minamino volleyed in a powerful strike.
Meanwhile, Erling Haaland tapped in the equaliser, once again leaving the Reds defence in a pickle.
It was a performance that the Liverpool of old – certainly one under their ex-manager Rodgers – would have produced regularly.
But the Liverpool of old also had some of the best strikers in the league as a get-out-of-jail-card. And Salah and Sadio Mane proved to be exactly that.
The former was once again the reason behind the hosts continuing their winning run at Anfield, while the latter kick-started the scoring in his usual prolific fashion.
Fullbacks Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who were rampant amongst goals and assists last season, also got in the act.
So, it’s clear that the current League leaders have an attack worth its weight in gold. But the chink in their armour centres around their defence. And our Liverpool vs Leicester predictions forecast the Foxes to do their fair share of probing this Saturday.
None more so evident that in their 5-0 thumping of this season’s relegation-contenders Newcastle United last weekend.
Goals that came through a Jamie Vardy brace, a Paul Dummett own goal, Ricardo Perriera and Wilfried Ndidi completely thwarted the Magpies.
And it wasn’t just the goalscoring that impressed about this Leicester City outfit. From the darting runs of Ayoze Perez to the midfield magic of Youri Tielemans, Steve Bruce’s side simply could not contain the visitors.
Such a cohesive attacking unit is sure to cause Liverpool’s back four problems this Saturday. Especially the form that the Foxes are operating in under Rodgers.
Rejuvenated, energised, cunning and blistering in the attack, the Reds are in for a tough home game. But as all title-contenders do, one that will see Klopp’s men crawl their way to victory if need be.
Liverpool vs Leicester Head To Head
Yes, the Reds have won four out of the last five games in this fixture, further fuelling our Liverpool vs Leicester predictions.
Yet the latest clash between this Saturday’s opponents ended in a scrappy draw. One that ultimately lost Klopp’s men the Premier League trophy.
Whether it was in that particular game, or in the Foxes recent victories, Rodger’s attack was a rampant one. From Vardy to James Maddison and Perez, Liverpool’s defence will surely be put through the rigours again.
Liverpool Team News
The hosts may be on rocky waters, but their defence will be boosted by the return of Joel Matip.
The Cameroon centre-back sustained a slight knock during the victory against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane last weekend. As a result, Klopp took no risks in leaving him out of the squad during the midweek Champions League fixture.
Matip’s presence alongside Van Dijk was sorely missed by the Reds who were repeatedly cut open by the Redbull strike-force. And the 28-year-old’s replacement, Joe Gomez, did not fare well as an understudy.
Following the trend of good news, Allison Becker is very close to a return to the starting XI, having been sidelined since the first game of the season.
According to Klopp, the Brazilian is back in training and performing well. Which means there is a strong chance that Allison could swap in for Adrian, who has performed exceedingly well in his absence.
The other potential return is Xherdan Shaqiri, who is fit to reintegrate into the team after recovering from a calf injury.
After the midweek Champions League gruelling, the Swiss forward could feature as Klopp looks to rotate the squad.
And between the three of them, our Liverpool vs Leicester predictions are expecting a more confident performance from the Reds.
Leicester Team News
In the Leicester camp, things are looking just as positive.
And all the news coming out of Belvoir Drive is surrounding the return of Maddison. Indeed, the midfielder picked up a knock to the ankle during the 2-1 win against Tottenham.
Fortunately, the game that Rodgers sidelined him for ended in a 5-0 victory for the Foxes, where Maddison’s services were not required.
With the evidence that the Englishman is back in training and moving freely, Rodgers may just risk playing him against his former employers this Saturday.
Liverpool vs Leicester Betting Tips
It seems as if the betting tipsters agree with our Liverpool vs Leicester predictions.
Evidently so in their forecast of a win for the hosts wagering in at odds of 47/100. Sure, the chances of a draw unfolding are just as tempting at 37/10 in our Liverpool vs Leicester match bets. And perhaps the opportunity for another shock away win for the Foxes which wagers in as a 57/10 pick.
But considering the prolific nature of the Reds attacking trio, and the return of Matip to bolster the defence, it looks as if Klopp’s men will secure their eight Premier League win on the bounce.
Title-winning form indeed.
