Two fallen Premier League giants meet at Old Trafford but who, according to our Manchester United vs Arsenal predictions, is on the rise?
Manchester United are once again struggling to make any impression on the top four. Things don’t look good for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer; the United board gave him a vote of confidence recently.
But Arsenal aren’t in much better shape. Three consecutive wins restored some confidence but defensively, the Gunners are still as vulnerable as ever.
It’s a match both sides must win but more importantly, it’s one neither can afford to lose. Will that bring out a defensive side to the respective coaches nature?
And will three points deliver the promise we thought both clubs had for the season ahead?

Manchester United vs Arsenal Predictions
Ole’s at the wheel but Manchester United are heading for the rocks. Solskjaer began his reign at Old Trafford with dizzying form.
Ten matches undefeated (W9, D1), recovering from defeat against PSG to record another five wins. He had the tools to take United back to the top, it seemed.
Since March’s historic win in Paris, it’s all gone wrong to the point where the Norwegian is being openly questioned. Twenty-one games with just six wins (D5, L10) and in the last four home games, no more than one goal in each.
United are no longer the formidable force they once were as West Ham emphasised at the London Stadium last weekend.
They are, however, getting things right in some areas of the pitch. Defensively, only Crystal Palace conceded fewer goals at home than United’s two.
Ironically, Palace scored the only goals scored by opponents at Old Trafford in the Premier League so far this season.
But the defence is United’s problem; goals are. The Red Devils rate 11th in goals scored this season in the top flight with just eight goals and four of those came against Chelsea on the opening day.
While selling Lukaku and disposing of the ineffective Alexis healed United’s squad divisions, not replacing them is undermining efforts to finish in the top four.
Eleventh, with eight points, is simply not good enough for the Stretford End, especially with no sign of improvement.
While United lumbered to victory over Rochdale in the Carabao Cup, Arsenal sailed smoothly past Nottingham Forest. The 5 – 0 victory took the Gunners tally to 11 goals in three games, as well as three wins.
It’s an unlikely turnaround in fortune given their abject performance a fortnight ago at Watford. That draw at Vicarage Road was one of four occasions in the last six away from home where Arsenal conceded two or more goals.
Even though that defensive collapse only cost them two points, it’s a match which prevents us from confidently stating an away win in our Manchester United vs Arsenal predictions.
The leaky defence isn’t healing but there are significant changes on the horizon. Both Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney are in the reckoning for this match while Hector Bellerin is an Under-23 match or two away from returning.
Long overdue defensive reinforcements which Gooners hope will see them build on their attacking prowess. The five teams who scored more than Arsenal in this season’s Premier League all played one game more.
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the pitch, Arsenal always has a goal threat. Six goals in six Premier League appearances this season and 28 in the last 42 top-flight matches.
He had the opportunity to improve that record last time around against Aston Villa but opted to give Nicolas Pepe the chance to break his duck from the penalty spot. Leadership qualities which saw him named as one of the ‘five captains’ at the Emirates.
If the Gunners resolve their defensive issues – just two clean sheets in their last 22 Premier League away matches – then their aspirations of returning to the Champions League should be met.
And it will certainly lead to victory at Old Trafford.
Manchester United vs Arsenal Head to Head
Manchester United’s next win over Arsenal will be their 100th in all competitions.
In league matches, this is the 190th meeting with United leading 81 wins to 64 with 44 draws.
One hurdle Arsenal must overcome is psychological. The Gunners often seem beaten when they play at Old Trafford which is unsurprising given they won just 15 of the previous 80 visits (D25, L55).
Arsenal last won this fixture in the league on 17th September 2006. Since then, it’s been a disaster; eight defeats and three draws.
Last season, this fixture ended 2 – 2 with Arsenal twice leading.
Manchester United Team News
Manchester United are missing Anthony Martial, Eric Bailly, Luke Shaw, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Diogo Dalot and Angel Gomes through injury. Marcus Rashord’s groin strain isn’t as bad as first feared but he is still rated very doubtful for the game.
Paul Pogba is also a doubt but such is the extent of United’s injury list, the France international may be forced into action.
Arsenal Team News
Arsenal’s only absentees are Alexandre Lacazette – out until after the international break next month – and Emile Smith Rowe, whose concussion suffered against Nottingham Forest keeps him out for a fortnight.
Hector Bellerin is unlikely to be risked despite returning against Forest but both Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney are in contention.
Manchester United vs Arsenal Betting Tips
Home advantage sees Manchester United as 7/5 favourites in Novibet’s match odds. Arsenal are 19/10 while the draw is 51/20.
It’s been a decade since there was a goalless draw at Old Trafford between these two sides and with their current form, it seems highly unlikely to be repeated here.
Both teams to score in this match (GG) is 14/25 although if you believe United’s parsimonious defence holds out, Teams to score: one @ 17/10 is appealing.
However, our Manchester United vs Arsenal predictions are set for an away win and Arsenal by one goal @ 73/20 is our pick of the bunch.
