Bournemouth travel to Millwall in the Championship on Wednesday night looking to reignite their title challenge.
The Cherries come into this game on the back of a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of Derby on Sunday. The Rams are rooted to the foot of the Championship and weren’t expected to get anything against the then league leaders.
Derby took an early lead, before Bournemouth turned the game around before half time. Two second half goals sealed a much needed win for Wayne Rooney’s men.
That result has blown the title race wide open, with Fulham taking the lead by a single point. Scott Parker’s men need to win here to get back on track.
Millwall won’t be making it easier for the visitors at The Den though. The London club have lost just two of their last ten games in the Championship.
Gary Rowett’s side are three points off the play off places and have realistic aspirations of a top six finish. A win against title contenders Bournemouth would certainly be a message of intent from The Lions.
The visitors come to east London needing a win to keep pace with leaders Fulham. The Cottagers have gone from strength to strength in recent weeks and have been scoring for fun.
Bournemouth are capable of scoring plenty of goals themselves though. The Cherries have bagged 12 goals in their last five games, an average of more than two a game.
Millwall have found goals difficult to come by themselves. They’ve scored just five goals in their last five league games.
Below, we’ll preview this Championship fixture and provide our predictions, the team news, our recommended bets and more…
Millwall vs Bournemouth Predictions
One thing you will get with this Bournemouth side, regardless of the result, is goals. Each of the Cherries’ last five games have seen at least two goals scored.
Three of Millwall’s last five games have also seen both teams find the net. With stats like those, we’re expecting plenty of goals at The Den come Wednesday night.
Millwall’s home form isn’t too shabby this season. The Lions have lost just two league games on home soil all season. The majority of their wins this campaign have also come at home.
Bournemouth’s away form is among the best in the league. Scott Parker’s side have lost just one of their nine away games in the Championship this season.
It’s a good home record against a good away record, so something has to give here. On balance, it should result in an away win here.
As we’ve seen in recent weeks though, the Championship is a very difficult division and anyone can beat anyone. Bournemouth have been on the wrong end of some surprising defeats themselves of late. They’ll know this won’t be straightforward.
It would be fair to say that the defeat to Derby on Sunday was a shock result. All the form pointed to a Bournemouth win, but the game just didn’t pan out that way.
On a positive note, Dominic Solanke continued his good scoring form for Bournemouth on the weekend. The striker found the net again to take his tally up to 14 for the season.
He’ll be confident he can add to that here, as Bournemouth look to go on a good winning run.

Millwall vs Bournemouth Head to Head
These two clubs have met on lots of occasions in the past, but we’ll focus on the last five. Of those, Bournemouth have two wins and Millwall have one, with the other game ending in a draw.
Two of the meetings came all the way back in 2014. The first game was an eventful 2-2 draw. Just a month later, the teams met again, with Bournemouth running out 2-0 winners.
It was then another three years until the teams clashed again, this time it was in the FA Cup. Millwall came away from that game the 3-0 victors.
It was then another few years until they met again, in the 2020/21 Championship season. The first game was a 1-1 draw at the Vitality Stadium.
The most recent meeting came in April this year. Bournemouth ran riot at The Den and came away 4-1 winners. Scott Parker would certainly take a scoreline like that here.

The hosts are expected to name a similar side to the one that beat Reading earlier in the month. That would see Bartosz Bialkowski start the game for Millwall here.
Jake Cooper and Shaun Hutchinson are expected to partner each other in the centre of defence for The Lions. Ryan Leonard could come in at right back, with George Saville at left back.
Murray Wallace is likely to start in the centre of midfield for the hosts. He could be joined by Billy Mitchell and Maikel Kieftenbeld.
Benik Afobe and Jed Wallace are expected to start the game on either side of an attacking trio. Matt Smith is likely to lead the attacking line and brings a serious aerial threat.

Scott Parker is expected to name the same starting XI that lost to Derby on Sunday. Our Millwall v Bournemouth predictions expect Mark Travers to retain his place in goal for The Cherries here.
Lloyd Kelly missed the weekend defeat through injury and is not expected to return for this. That will see Chris Mepham continue to deputise for the centre back, alongside the experienced Gary Cahill.
Jack Stacey will keep his place at right back. Leif Davis is expected to retain his place on the left side of the defence.
Jefferson Lerma and Lewis Cook are likely to anchor the midfield for the visitors. That will allow Philip Billing to keep his role in the number ten position.
Ryan Christie and Jaidon Anthony are expected to keep their places on the attacking wings. Bournemouth top goal scorer Dominic Solanke will take his place at the head of the attack.
