Rangers welcome Lyon to Ibrox on Thursday night in the Europa League group stages.
Steven Gerrard’s men are on a six-game unbeaten run that consists of five wins. Their last defeat was at the hands of Malmo when being knocked out of Champions League qualifying.
The Glasgow club currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership, three points ahead of city rivals Celtic. As well as domestic honours, they’ll have their eye on a successful European campaign.
Last season’s performance in this competition is a good yardstick for the home side to go off. Rangers reached the last 16 last campaign and that will surely be the minimum aim for them this year.
Their Champions League exit aside, Rangers have had a very good start to their season. They’ve reached the group stages of the Europa League here, and face a very tricky opening fixture.
Having finished in fourth place in France’s Ligue 1, Lyon automatically qualified for the group stages of this competition. That makes this their first competitive European fixture of the season.
They had a pretty poor start to their domestic season, failing to win any of their opening three games. They look to have turned a corner since though and have won their last two.
Peter Bosz’s side could still be suffering from a bit of early season lag as they search for their best form. The fact that Rangers have already gotten through a couple of tough games could give them the edge.
