Week 2 of the 2019-20 Women’s Super League sees two unbeaten sides meet at Adams Park but who comes out on top in our Reading Women vs Man City Women predictions?
The two sides fought a seven-goal thriller in March with the visitors claiming a 4 – 3 victory. And that wasn’t an unusual score; every WSL meeting at Reading has seen goals galore!
Manchester City, last season’s FA Women’s Super League runners-up, are set for another title tilt this time around.
Three points in this clash will see them firmly on track but can Reading Women spring a surprise and boost their own aspirations for the coming season?
It’s hard to see that happening. Are Manchester City on track to become only the second team in history to complete a WSL / Premier League double?

Reading Women vs Man City Women Predictions
It’s been a bright start to the season for both clubs. Reading won 1 – 0 at Liverpool last weekend while City beat rivals United in the inaugural WSL Manchester derby.
Nick Cushing’s team continued their good form with a crushing 7 – 1 win at Lugano in the first leg of their Champions League tie during midweek. The trip to the Home Counties this weekend is as much a test of their skills as it is of squad depth.
The win in Switzerland was hard work; City were held 1 – 1 at half-time before cutting loose with five goals in the final 25 minutes.
Caroline Weir added two more goals to her winner last weekend, taking her tally this season to almost half the seven goals she netted last year.
City almost went undefeated last season, losing to champions Arsenal on the final day which underlines the extent of Reading’s task. However, last weekend’s win over Liverpool puts them in good heart.
The victory at Prenton Park was proof that the immutable law of the football ex runs as deeply in the women’s game as it does in the men’s. Fara Williams spent close to three years at Liverpool but she scored few better than her stunning free-kick which won the match.
Weir may dispute those claiming the Goal of the Day award on Williams behalf.
Reading’s home record was patchy last season (W4, D1, L6) but all games featured goals. This time around, in repeating their 1 – 0 win over Liverpool, the Royals served notice they are well-organised once again.
However, last season, they developed a nasty habit of conceding goals against the big two; Arsenal put nine past them in two games, City five. If they want to improve on last season’s fifth place, this is a game where they may fancy taking a point or more.
Reading added a strong Scandanavian spine to their squad this summer with Lisa-Marie Karlseng Utland expected to debut at Adams Park. An additional spike to their strikeforce from the Norway international with 15 goals on the world stage.
Will it be enough? As we mentioned earlier, this fixture is more a test of City’s squad depth. Cushing only made three changes to his side in midweek; is three in a row one too many for some of the players?
Reading Women vs Man City Women Head to Head
Just as our Reading Women vs Man City predictions favour the visitors, so too does history. Reading won one of the six WSL meetings (D1, L4).
To date, they lost all three home games, in matches which all saw over 2.5 goals. The last two both saw over 4.5 goals.
Reading, however, scored twice in both those games and last season almost pulled back from 4 – 1 down. The Royals were beaten by time as well as City in the 4 – 3 defeat.
Reading Women Team News
Lisa-Marie Karlseng Utland is set to make her debut for the Royals. Otherwise, Kelly Chambers has no injury concerns ahead of the match.
Man City Women Team News
Georgia Stanway is the major worry for this match after she hobbled off during the 7 – 1 win over Lugano.
Reading Women vs Man City Women Betting Tips
While our sports betting markets aren’t available, they would undoubtedly make the Blues favourites, just as our Reading Women vs Man City Women predictions do.
City’s start to this season shows they mean business. They will certainly believe they can take the three points from their trip to Buckinghamshire.
However, an away win always bolsters the spirits. With new players melding into a stronger team, Reading are capable of pulling off a surprise. What odds on Fara Williams adding another to last week’s winner?
