Two of English football’s oldest clubs meet in the Potteries but our Stoke City vs Nottingham Forest predictions make grim reading for the home side.
A point at Griffin Park last weekend lifted City off the bottom of the Championship table but it was hardly cause for the party poppers to be broken out. There is a long way to go before safety from relegation is claimed.
Forest, meanwhile, are unbeaten in seven league games and undefeated on the road. Very quietly, Sabri Lamouchi’s men have climbed into the playoff spots.
Can they keep their good form going until the end of the season? It will be a major surprise if they don’t do so at Stoke’s expense in this fixture.
Two sides with very different starts to the season but with the same aim for its’ end: a return to the Premier League.

Stoke City vs Nottingham Forest Predictions
It’s back to the day jobs for City and Forest after both suffered midweek Carabao Cup exits. Stoke know the ignominy of a giantkilling while Forest were on the wrong end of a thrashing at Arsenal.
It’s been a steep learning curve in the past few seasons for the Potters. They learned the hard way that bouncing back to the Premier League at the first time of asking is one of the toughest tasks in football.
And so far this season, there is little sign that they learned any of the harsh lessons from 2018-19.
Last Saturday’s trip to west London saw the Potters record their first clean sheet of the league season. A goalless draw at Brentford is a creditable point but also underlines their goal-shy attack.
Last season only four teams scored fewer than Stoke’s 45 goals and two of them were relegated. This year, just three teams have fewer than the seven scored by Nathan Jones team. None has conceded more than Stoke’s 17, the division’s joint-worst record which they share with bottom-of-the-table Huddersfield Town.
Eight games in and Jones’ boys are winless with points only taken from Brentford and Derby. However, only promotion favourites Leeds United thrashed Stoke; 3 – 0 winners back in August on their short trip south.
Forest, meanwhile, are unbeaten since losing to West Bromwich Albion on the opening day of the season (W4, D3). Lamouchi’s side claimed some notable scalps in Fulham and Swansea City, two teams flying until they faced Forest.
Like their hosts, Forest aren’t flush with goals. Lamouchi’s side is the lowest scoring in the top seven and only Blackburn Rovers of the top ten have scored fewer. So long as the defence holds tight – only Leeds and Swansea conceded fewer than Forest’s seven – that shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
Stoke’s defence is set for a busy night, however. Their concentration must be constant with seven players scoring Forest’s eleven goals thus far.
Lewis Grabban has four, Albert Admonah two, with five of the squad on one. It’s a healthy spread and one which stands Lamouchi in good stead for the coming campaign.
Forest are the team of the two most likely to have a say in the promotion race. On this occasion, our Stoke City vs Nottingham Forest predictions see little likelihood of the home side denting those ambitions.
Stoke City vs Nottingham Forest Head to Head
This will be the 107th meeting between the two sides with Forest ahead 44 wins to 31 and 31 drawn.
The last ten meetings, stretching back to 1998, are fairly evenly split; five draws with Forest taking three wins to two.
However, Forest haven’t won at the Britannia Stadium in any of its’ guises. This is the sixth meeting with Stoke winning twice and three drawn.
They have met once previously on this day. Twenty-two years ago at the City Ground with Kevin Campbell scored the only goal of the game. His son Tyrese is a first-team squad member at Stoke City.
Stoke City Team News
Nathan Jones made 10 changes for the trip to Crawley Town and is expected to revert to the XI which drew with Brentford for this one.
Despite suffering a bad cut on his head last weekend, Liam Lindsay proved his fitness by playing at Crawley and is expected to keep his place in the side this weekend.
Nathan Collins won’t be changing his namesake’s mind. The centre-back is suspended following his red card in the Carabao Cup.
Nottingham Forest Team News
Like Nathan Jones, Sabri Lamouchi fielded a much-changed line-up for the midweek Carabao Cup tie. None of the XI which was thrashed 5 – 0 by Arsenal’s youngsters did anything to warrant inclusion in this fixture.
Sammy Ameobi, Joe Lolley and Alfa Semedo face races against time to be fit for the short trip across the East Midlands.
Rafa Mir and Ryan Yates are expected to miss out on this fixture.
Stoke City vs Nottingham Forest Betting Tips
Novibet’s match odds surprisingly make Stoke City 13/10 favourites with Nottingham Forest an attractive 11/5. The draw isn’t fancied at 47/20.
Forest can go top of the table with a win so their motivation to break their ‘Britannia hoodoo’ is high. Sixth-time lucky comes with the expectation that neither side will keep a clean sheet. Both teams to score is 77/100.
More telling in this match may be the Potters record so far this season. Just one game saw fewer than 2.5 goals and three of the last four saw exactly three goals. 63/2-0 for that one to be repeated.
To finish, however, we turn to history. A Campbell to score in a 1 – 0 win with Tyrese following in his dad’s footsteps? 13/2 for Stoke to come out of this with a correct score of 1 – 0.
