It’s a bottom vs top tussle at the DW Stadium this weekend with our Wigan Athletic vs Nottingham Forest predictions heavily favouring the visitors.
Forest sit second in the table, firmly ensconced in the Championship promotion race, one goal worse off than the Baggies.
Wigan are struggling, sitting 19th only three points above the relegation zone. However, their home form is showing signs of saving them from a League One fate.
Three unbeaten without conceding a goal; as good as many above them in the table. It is a tough test for a Forest side unbeaten in 10.

Wigan vs Nottingham Forest Predictions
Nottingham Forest are Wigan’s most formidable visitors since Leeds United left with all three points in August.
Since Marcelo Bielsa’s team left the DW Stadium with a 2 – 0 win which flattered the 10-man home side, Wigan have steadily improved. Two wins and a draw with no goals conceded were much needed given the Latics poor away form (D1, L5).
Manager Paul Cook was particularly unimpressed with the performance at Hillsborough last time around. The one-nil defeat was, he felt, “[not a] great game, if I’m being truthful” with “very few clear-cut chances.”
His team is struggling in front of goal. Leading scorer Chey Dunkley has three goals to his name but they came in just two games. Only six other squad members have scored for Cook’s team so far.
They will need to dig deep for a result in this clash. Forest are ten unbeaten (W6, D4) with four clean sheets in that run.
Crucially, their defence is proving formidable. Stoke City are the only team to score twice against Forest but were let down by their own back four as the East Midlanders scored three.
Away from home, Forest remain unbeaten in the Championship (W3, D3). Goals are relatively hard to come by. Only the trips to Stoke City and Fulham yielded more than one goals.
It’s an important time of the season for Forest. Save for the upcoming East Midlands derby and a trip to Bristol City, Sabri Lamouche’s men have a run of 10 very winnable games. It’s a chance to seal their place in the post-season jamboree.
Lewis Grabban is Forest’s dangerman, scoring five goals so far this season. Wigan are warned; Forest take points when he scores on the road as Leeds United, Swansea City and Stoke City can testify.
He served notice in training this week that he is chomping at the bit for a return to action:

Forest aren’t entirely reliant on Lolley for goals this season. Ben Watson netted his second of the season for the winner against Brentford last time out while Joe Lolley has three and Albert Adomah has a brace as well.
All told, this is a tough game for the home side. Recent results are good but our Wigan Athletic vs Nottingham Forest predictions remain pointed at an away win.
Wigan Athletic vs Nottingham Forest Head to Head
This weekend is only the 15th meeting between the two sides. Both sides have four wins apiece with six drawn.
The visitors have never won at the DW Stadium (D5, L2) with the last three league meetings drawn.
However, Forest have the upper hand in recent seasons. One defeat in the last seven (W3, D3) with Wigan’s only win coming in the FA Cup third round during 2016-17.
Wigan Athletic Team News
The best news for Wigan this week came with Sunderland appoint Phil Parkinson as their new boss. It meant Paul Cook stayed at the DW Stadium.
Kieffer Moore returned unscathed from international duty with Wales and will be buoyant after scoring his first Wales goal in the 1 – 1 draw with Slovakia.
Nottingham Forest Team News
Sabri Lamouchi is sweating on the fitness of Michael Dawson after the 35-year-old suffered a knock against Stoke City.
Chemi Rodriguez stood in for the former Tottenham man which may persuade Lamouchi to keep an unchanged side.
Carl Jenkinson remains sidelined.
Wigan vs Nottingham Forest Betting Tips
Despite the disparity in their league positions, this is a close match to call in Novibet’s match odds.
Wigan’s home advantage sees their odds at 9/5, marginally longer than Nottingham Forest’s 8/5. The draw is 9/4.
All Forest’s away victories came by a one-goal margin so the answer ‘Yes’ to the question Will any team win by a one-goal margin @ 5/4 is quite enticing.
